Great article, Janna, and super thought-provoking!!

Right off the bat, I have four questions:

  1. How does this/could this relate to the “5 service characteristics” (e.g. Intangibility, Inseparability, Perishability, Co-production, and Variability)?
  2. I’m fuzzy on this, but somewhere I’ve seen a list of the “types” or “kinds” of service (I vaguely remember reading words like “access”, “skillset”, “action”, etc.) — would these all live on the 4th aspect step?
  3. How might your 7 aspects grow to include services performed by oneself to help your future self. (e.g. brushing my teeth)?
(I wanted to call this “self-service”, but that term is more commonly used for services with an external provider — like using an ATM or buying tickets online)
  4. JTBD/service-dominant logic fans might assert that products are only valuable because of the services they perform for us. (e.g. a milkshake keeps me entertained and full while I drive) — would your model consider these values a “service” as well?
